We don't justpublish stories. We own them.
Sugarcane Publishing is an independent IP development and rights management studio. We develop, publish, and license literary properties across print, audio, adaptation, and beyond. Distribution is temporary. Ownership is permanent.
One company.
Every layer of the asset.
Most publishers acquire your work and hand you a check. We build around the IP — developing properties that can live in print, audio, adaptation, merchandise, and licensing simultaneously. The distribution deal is one window. We hold the building.
Publishing
Original titles developed and brought to market through our imprints — Sugarcane Inheritance (nonfiction) and Sugarcane Fiction (speculative, fantasy, paranormal).
Rights Management
We structure IP ownership to retain maximum subsidiary rights — audio, foreign, adaptation, merchandise, special editions. Distribution deals don't have to mean you give up everything.
IP Development
Properties developed from concept through market with long-term asset value in mind. A book is a window into a world. We build the world first.
Licensing
We license properties to third-party publishers, producers, and platforms while maintaining the underlying asset. The right deal amplifies the IP — it doesn't consume it.
Adaptation
From page to screen to audio — our properties are developed with adaptation potential in mind. The story is the seed. Format is just the medium.
Author Platform
The author is a brand. We build the infrastructure behind the name — platform, positioning, and the business architecture that makes the creative work sustainable.
The stories that matter most are often the ones the industry ignores. We built the house to publish them anyway.
Sugarcane Publishing carries a Caribbean name chosen with intention. Founded by two creatives with Caribbean roots, the name is a nod to where we came from — and a statement about what we're building.
We exist for the multicultural, the multiracial, the non-normative. For voices that have always had something to say and too few places to say it with the care that work deserves.
Independent by design. Small enough to be intentional. Structured to own what we build.

where the value lives.
Most creators hand over their IP at the deal table. We built our structure so that no single distribution deal can touch the underlying asset. Here's how that works.
The Creator
Original work is created and assigned or licensed to Sugarcane Publishing, which holds and manages the underlying IP.
Sugarcane Publishing
Holds and manages the IP. Retains subsidiary rights. Decides which rights to license, when, and to whom.
The Market
Publishers, platforms, producers, and licensees access specific rights windows. The asset stays with Sugarcane.
