About

Named for our history. Built for the culture.

Our Story

Sugarcane Publishing was founded by two creatives with Caribbean roots. The name is a deliberate nod to that heritage — sugarcane is the crop, the history, the labor, and the sweetness that came from it.

The company was built to publish the stories the industry overlooks and to structure IP ownership so creators don't lose what they build. We are small enough to be intentional and serious enough to build work that lasts.

The Structure

Sugarcane runs two imprints — Sugarcane Inheritance for nonfiction and strategy, and Sugarcane Fiction for speculative worlds under the K.T. Conte pen name. Underneath both sits a single rights layer.

Owning your IP means holding the rights to every form your work can take — print, audio, translation, adaptation, and beyond. Most creators sign those away early. Sugarcane was built so they don't have to: we develop the property, retain the subsidiary rights, and license them deliberately.
